Saving Shelter Dogs One Task at a Time
There are a staggering 3.1 million shelter dogs in the United States.
According to a 2024 Forbes study, approximately 64% of these dogs will be adopted into happy and healthy families, 23% will remain in the shelter indefinitely, and the remaining 13% will be euthanized.
Of the 3.1 million shelter dogs, 36% may never see a life outside of their shelter. To put that percentage into even more perspective, 1.1 million dogs may never live outside of their kennel walls.
In addition to this, according to a 2023 Calpin News statistic that there are 8.6 million Americans with a disability that can be supported by a service dog, yet there are less than 100,000 available service dogs in the U.S. This disparaging ratio of individuals with disabilities to available service dogs results in American service dogs becoming extremely expensive, nearing $50,000 per dog.
Active After Adversity is a 501c3 New Jersey / New York non-profit organization that adopts shelter dogs and trains them into working service dogs for individuals in need for FREE!
We offer a diverse list of service dogs trained for various tasks; including PTSD/Veteran response, Psychiatric assistance, Autism assistance/support, Wheelchair support, Mobility assistance, and Medical alert.
We believe that everyone deserves comfort, confidence, and support within their own mind and body, just as much as we believe that every dog has its purpose. While mitigating the number of shelter dogs, we increase the number of individuals who can receive quality care and support through service dogs.
Here at Active After Adversity, we want to end that costly trend and provide individuals with the support they need, without breaking the bank while saving our local shelter dogs!
